Update: Norfolk Southern Agrees to Pay $600 Million to Settle Class Action Lawsuit Over East Palestine, Ohio, Derailment

09:06 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) said Tuesday it will pay $600 million to settle a class action lawsuit over the derailment of one of its trains in East Palestine, Ohio, in February 2023.

If approved by the court, the agreement will resolve all class action claims within a 20-mile radius of the derailment of the train that carried hazardous materials and personal injury claims within a 10-mile radius of the site, the company said.

The agreement did not include or constitute any admission of liability, wrongdoing, or fault, the company added.
