Sep 1, 2024 2:54 AM

04:39 PM EDT, 08/30/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Adds comment in second paragraph by two unions confirming basic terms of the tentative contracts).

Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) said Friday it reached contract agreements with five additional labor unions, with the railway company now completing deals comprising roughly 55% of its unionized workforce four months before the next collective bargaining round is slated to begin.

In separate statements Friday, spokesmen for the unions representing Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) employees in the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers - Transportation Division Yardmasters and the American Train Dispatchers Association confirmed tentative agreements with the company.

Norfolk Southern ( NSC ) negotiated separate deals this week with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and Blacksmiths, the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers, and the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division. Attempts by MT Newswires to reach those unions for comment were not immediately returned on Friday.

The contracts mirror provisions of Norfolk Southern's ( NSC ) other recent contract agreements by offering unionized workers a 3.5% average wage increase each year along with more vacation time sooner in their careers as well as several enhancements to their health care benefit packages, the company said.
