Update: Novo Nordisk Offers Some Workers With Revised Employment Terms Amid Layoffs
Sep 30, 2025 9:18 AM

11:42 AM EDT, 09/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) statement in the first paragraph. )

Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) has offered a number of its employees with changed employment terms and conditions, the company said Tuesday in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.

The statement comes after Bloomberg reported that the company is offering some employees an option between a demotion and termination, citing local unions.

Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) did not provide further details on the matter, but had said earlier this month that it plans to reduce its global workforce by about 9,000, with roughly 5,000 layoffs expected in Denmark.

Some employees were given 24 hours to accept changes to the terms of employment or receive a severance package, local unions said, according to the Bloomberg report.

"Our phones are absolutely burning hot, and we've had extended opening hours and extra staff called in," said Susie Staerk Ekstrand, chief executive officer of the Pharmadanmark union, the report noted.

The IDA union estimates it has received over 60 inquiries so far, the report added.

Pharmadanmark and IDA did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
