Update: Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, Ozempic Have No Added Suicide Risk, EU Says
Apr 12, 2024 6:16 AM

08:57 AM EDT, 04/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statement from Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) in fourth and fifth paragraphs.)

Novo Nordisk's ( NVO ) popular diabetes and weight-loss medicines Wegovy and Ozempic have no added risk of suicide, a European Medicines Agency risk assessment committee said Friday, disclosing results of an investigation of reports linking the drugs to suicidal thoughts.

The evidence does not support a causal link between the medicines and self-harm thoughts and actions, the EMA said.

Drugmakers of such treatments will continue to monitor the issue, according to the EMA.

"Novo Nordisk ( NVO ) will continue to monitor reports of adverse drug reactions, including suicide and suicidal ideation, through routine pharmacovigilance," a spokesperson for the company told MT Newswires in an emailed statement.
