The US National Transportation Safety Board said Wednesday it has opened an investigation into the March 3 fatal crash between a Ford (F) Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle and two stopped cars on a highway in Philadelphia.
The NTSB said on its website that the two stationary cars were struck from behind by the Ford. The Mach-E is an electric SUV equipped with BlueCross driver-assist features, according to Ford.
The agency said it is investigating in coordination with the Pennsylvania State Police, Reuters reported Wednesday. The NTSB said last month it was investigating a fatal Feb. 24 crash near San Antonio in which another Mach-E using the driver assistance system struck a stationary vehicle.
Ford told MT Newswires it was recently made aware of the incident by the NTSB and has informed the National Highway Transportation Safety Association. "We are researching the events of March 3 and collaborating fully with both agencies to understand the facts," a spokesperson said. "We extend our sympathies to those involved."
