Oracle (ORCL) said Thursday that some E-Business Suite customers have received extortion e-mails.
In a blog post, the company said its ongoing probe found that the hackers potentially used "previously identified vulnerabilities." Oracle recommended that users update their software.
A group claiming affiliation with the Clop ransomware launched an extortion campaign using stolen sensitive data from Oracle's E-Business Suite, Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google ( GOOG ) said in a statement e-mailed to MT Newswires.
"The malicious e-mails contain contact information, and we've verified that the two specific contact addresses provided are also publicly listed on the Clop data leak site," Google ( GOOG ) said.
"It is critical to note that while the tactics align with an extortion motive and the actor is explicitly claiming this connection, GTIG (Google Threat Intelligence Group) does not currently have sufficient evidence to definitively assess the veracity of these claims," it added.
The Clop group has demanded a ransom of up to $50 million in one case, Bloomberg News reported, citing cybersecurity firm Halcyon.
