Update: Polestar Facing NHTSA Recall Query Over Continued Rear-View Camera Outages
Jul 11, 2025 7:55 AM

10:18 AM EDT, 07/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with the NHTSA's confirmation throughout and the latest stock movement in the sixth paragraph.)

Polestar Automotive (PSNY) is facing a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall query covering 27,816 certain 2021 to 2025 Polestar 2 vehicles due to continued loss of rear-view camera display, the regulator said in a notice on its website.

In June last year, the EV maker recalled certain 2021 to 2024 Polestar 2 vehicles because of issues with the rear-view camera related to reduced visualization, becoming inoperable, or incorrect functioning in reverse gear, the regulator said, adding that the EV manufacturer filed a new recall on April 25 to resolve the matter.

Polestar had proposed resolving the issue through a software update, but the NHTSA still received more than 100 complaints of camera failures after the 25V-280 recall remedy was completed, according to the NHTSA notice.

The regulator's Office of Defects Investigation discussed the complaints with Polestar, which accepted that "their over the air software remedy for Recall 25V-280 did not correct the original issue," the NHTSA said.

Polestar did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.

Shares of the company were up 1.3% in recent Friday trading.
