Qatar Airways is considering ordering Boeing ( BA ) and Airbus widebody aircraft to renew and expand its fleet, according to media reports Friday.
The airline's Chief Executive Badr Mohammed Al Meer said Friday the airline had submitted a request for proposal to Boeing ( BA ) and Airbus for a "big" new aircraft order, according to CNBC.
"We released an RFP to create some competition between both suppliers," Al Meer told CNBC without disclosing the size or specific models being considered.
The potential order may include up to 150 Airbus A350 or Boeing 777X models, with discussions ongoing to finalize the deal in the coming months, Bloomberg reported, citing sources with knowledge of the details.
"As a leading aircraft manufacturer we are always in talks with our customers about their current and future fleet requirements," an Airbus spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed statement. "The content of those talks are confidential."
Qatar Airways and Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
