Update: R2 Semiconductor Sues Intel, Others for Patent Infringement in France
Apr 9, 2024 8:30 AM

11:09 AM EDT, 04/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Dell's reply in the seventh paragraph.)

R2 Semiconductor said Monday it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Paris against the French units of Intel ( INTC ) and its clients Dell (DELL), Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and HP (HPQ).

The move comes before the April 16 start date of a UK trial on the same European patent against Intel ( INTC ), R2 said.

The French suit is to defend a "patent covering integrated voltage regulation technology invented" by its Chief Executive David Fisher, R2 said.

The company said that it won judgments by a German court in February against Intel ( INTC ), Dell and HP, including injunctions that block the sale of chips that use R2's technology.

"We are looking into the filing in France," an Intel ( INTC ) spokesperson told MT Newswires. "R2, a company that does not make or sell any products, is asserting the European version of a patent that was already invalidated in the US -- we expect that on appeal in Germany it will also be found either invalid, not infringed, or both."

The spokesperson said the company filed an action last week in Italy on the same matter and is assessing potential actions in other countries, including France.

A Dell spokesperson told MT Newswires on Tuesday that the company doesn't "comment on pending litigation."

HP Inc. didn't immediately reply to a request for comment, and a Hewlett Packard Enterprise spokesperson said "I'd refer you back to Intel ( INTC ) for comment on this matter."
