An initiative to label Massachusetts Uber Technologies (UBER) and Lyft ( LYFT ) drivers as independent contractors is allowed to appear on the 2024 ballot, the state Supreme Judicial Court said Thursday.
The court also approved a separate ballot measure that would grant collective bargaining rights to Uber ( UBER ) and Lyft ( LYFT ) drivers.
The Attorney General's certifications and summaries "comply with the requirements" of the state's constitution, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court said.
"However, we retain jurisdiction to revisit our rulings and conclusions and, if appropriate, to withdraw this opinion in the event the proponents seek to place more than one petition on the November ballot," it said.
Uber ( UBER ) and Lyft ( LYFT ) didn't respond to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
