Update: Rivian Recalls 24,000 Vehicles Over Potential Hands-Free Software Glitch; Shares Fall
Sep 12, 2025 10:57 AM

01:36 PM EDT, 09/12/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with stock price movement in the headline and first paragraph)

Rivian Automotive ( RIVN ) shares fell 5% in recent trading Friday, after recalling 24,214 of its 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles due to a potential glitch in its hands-free highway assist software.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday, the software may fail to correctly identify a lead vehicle.

The NHTSA said the issue affects certain 2025 Rivian vehicles operating an older software version. It added that Rivian has since released an over-the-air software update.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on Nov. 4.
