Roblox ( RBLX ) is under investigation by the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets over potential risks minors in the EU face on the online gaming platform, the regulator said Friday in a statement.
Roblox ( RBLX ) frequently makes headlines due to alleged concerns over minors being exposed to violent or explicit content, reports about bad actors attempting to contact minors on the platform, and the use of techniques to prompt users to make purchases, the regulator said.
The investigation, which is expected to last 12 months, will focus on the platform's safeguards to protect minors, according to the statement.
Roblox ( RBLX ) is committed to complying with the EU Digital Services Act and has invested in building systems that align with the act's principles, a company spokesperson said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires.
"Roblox ( RBLX ) has been in ongoing dialogue with the ACM for many months," the spokesperson said. "We look forward to providing the ACM with further clarity on the many policies and safeguards we have in place to protect minors, including various safety enhancements that we believe set an industry benchmark for communication safety."
