Oct 10, 2024 12:52 AM

03:29 AM EDT, 10/10/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with response from Marriott ( MAR ) in the last paragraph.)

Sony Group ( SONY ) said in a court filing Tuesday that it will drop its lawsuit against Marriott ( MAR ) over allegations the hotel chain used hundreds of songs in ads and social media posts without authorization.

In a joint filing, both companies said they would end the dispute with prejudice, barring the complaint from being refiled.

The filing said each company will bear it own fees and costs

Sony ( SONY ) began warning Marriott ( MAR ) in 2020 that it was using its copyrighted music without permission, alleging in a lawsuit filed in May that it had misused at least 931 songs by artists that included Beyonce, Michael Jackson, and Harry Styles, Reuters reported.

Sony ( SONY ) had asked the court for monetary damages and an order blocking Marriott ( MAR ) from using its music, Reuters reported.

Marriott ( MAR ) declined to comment. Sony ( SONY ) did not immediately reply to MT Newswires' requests for comment.
