Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) said Tuesday it is removing 270 pilot positions in Denver and Atlanta as part of ongoing efforts to increase efficiency.
The airline will remove 155 pilot roles in Denver, but is not planning to trim flights there, except for overnight operations. Affected pilots will be offered positions at other Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) bases, the company said.
In Atlanta, 115 pilot jobs are being moved, fewer than 140 expected in September when the company announced to cut nearly one-third of its flights from the city, according to multiple media reports.
Southwest ( LUV ) shares were up 2% in recent trading.
"The modest reductions to our crew bases in Atlanta and Denver are part of our previously announced strategy to efficiently maximize the revenue-generating potential of our fleet and accommodate customer demand," a Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) spokesperson told MT Newswires. "Employees will transfer to other bases and no reductions in force have occurred."
