Update: Spirit AeroSystems to Reportedly Cut About 450 Jobs at Main Campus
May 16, 2024 12:59 PM

03:44 PM EDT, 05/16/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Spirit AeroSystem's comment in third paragraph)

Spirit AeroSystems ( SPR ) intends to lay off roughly 450 employees at its main campus in Wichita, Kansas, as it deals with mounting losses and a slowdown in deliveries to Boeing ( BA ) , multiple media outlets reported Thursday.

The potential layoffs were first reported by KSN-TV, citing an internal memo disclosing the number of employees to be affected.

The reports quoted Spirit spokesperson Joe Buccino as saying the slow pace of aircraft deliveries "compels a reduction to our workforce." He did not disclose the number of any layoffs.

Boeing ( BA ) is reportedly in talks to acquire Spirit, its former subsidiary.

Neither Spirit nor Boeing ( BA ) immediately replied to MT Newswires' request for comment.
