Update: Starbucks Reportedly Faces Workers Union Strike in 40 US Cities
Nov 13, 2025 7:28 AM

10:10 AM EST, 11/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with response from a Starbucks ( SBUX ) spokesperson from the fourth paragraph onwards.)

Starbucks ( SBUX ) is facing an open-ended strike by its baristas in at least 40 US cities, media outlets reported Thursday.

The Starbucks Workers United said more than 1,000 baristas at over 65 stores are participating in the strike after both sides failed to reach a collective bargaining agreement, according to the reports.

Workers United is demanding higher wages, improved hours and resolution of hundreds of unfair labor practice charges against the company, the reports said.

A Starbucks ( SBUX ) spokesperson told MT Newswires in an emailed statement that less than 1% of its coffeehouses were affected by the strike.

"We're disappointed that Workers United, who represents less than 4% of our partners, has called for a strike instead of returning to the bargaining table," the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said Starbucks ( SBUX ) is "ready to talk" with the union when it's ready to come back.

"Any agreement needs to reflect the reality that Starbucks ( SBUX ) offers the best job in retail, including more than $30 an hour on average in pay and benefits for hourly partners," the spokesperson said.
