Jan 13, 2025 9:39 AM

12:16 PM EST, 01/13/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with details throughout)

Sysco ( SYY ) workers in Houston are preparing to strike after the company pulled out of negotiations, the Teamsters union said in a statement Monday.

According to the union, over 430 Sysco ( SYY ) drivers, warehouse workers, and mechanics represented by Teamsters Local 988 are planning to strike after both sides failed to reach a collective bargaining agreement.

Teamsters Local 988 is comprised of nearly 8,000 members, according to its website.

"The wage package Sysco ( SYY ) has proposed is insulting, unrealistic, and fails to reflect the value of our members' hard work," said Robert Mele, President of Teamsters Local 988, in a statement.

Sysco ( SYY ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
