TAL Education Group's ( TAL ) shares rose more than 16% in recent Thursday trading after the company posted higher-than-expected fiscal Q3 results.

The tutoring company reported fiscal Q3 non-GAAP earnings of $0.06 per diluted American depositary share, compared with breakeven a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet expected $0.03.

Revenue for the quarter ended Nov. 30 was $606.4 million, compared with $373.5 million a year earlier.

Analysts polled by FactSet expected $540.2 million.
