Update: Talen Energy Requests Rehearing on FERC's Rejected Amazon Data Center Power Agreement
Nov 22, 2024 8:47 AM

11:18 AM EST, 11/22/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Talen Energy's ( TLN ) confirmation throughout the story and the latest stock movement in the seventh paragraph.)

Talen Energy ( TLN ) has requested a rehearing of its rejected agreement to increase power to an Amazon ( AMZN ) data center located at its Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, nuclear plant, a Talen spokesperson confirmed to MT Newswires in an email Friday through a company filing.

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Nov. 1 rejected an amended interconnection agreement to increase the capacity of an Amazon ( AMZN ) data center connected to Talen's Susquehanna nuclear plant in Pennsylvania.

The regulator failed to implement the correct legal procedure and did not explain why it rejected the pact, the filing added.

"The November 1 Order is wrong on the law; it is wrong on policy, and it must be reversed on rehearing," Talen said in the filing.

The regulator's decision to reject the agreement "damaged" US economic and national security interests, the filing said.

Neither Amazon ( AMZN ) nor the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission responded to MT Newswires' requests for comment.

Talen Energy's ( TLN ) stock was down 3.1% in recent Friday trading.

Price: 213.12, Change: -6.77, Percent Change: -3.08
