11:09 AM EDT, 08/21/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with NHTSA's report throughout the story.)
Tesla (TSLA) is facing a US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's audit query over delays in reporting crashes that took place "several months" or more before the dates of the reports, the regulator said in a report.
The Standing General Order in place at the time required the EV manufacturer to submit a report within one or five days of receiving notification of the crash, the NHTSA added.
The regulator is opening an inquiry to examine the reason of the potential delays in reporting, and the strategies Tesla has formed to resolve the concern, according to the NHTSA.
Preliminary discussions between the Office of Defects Investigation and Tesla demonstrated that the timing of the reports was due to a problem with the company's data collection, which, according to Tesla, has now been resolved, the NHTSA said.
Tesla did not respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
