Update: TikTok Parent Faces US Ban After Appeals Court Upholds National Security Law
Dec 6, 2024 11:00 AM

01:31 PM EST, 12/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with statement from TikTok spokesperson in the second and third paragraphs.)

A federal appeals court on Friday in Washington upheld a new US law enacted to protect national security and user privacy, meaning TikTok's Chinese parent company faces a US ban if it doesn't sell the app by the Jan. 19 deadline, Bloomberg reported Friday.

A TikTok spokesperson told MT Newswires that the proposed ban is based on hypotheticals and misinformation.

"The Supreme Court has an established historical record of protecting Americans' right to free speech, and we expect they will do just that on this important constitutional issue," the spokesperson said.
