08:11 AM EDT, 06/04/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with a statement from Mazda in the story body.)
Toyota Motor ( TM ) said Monday it has temporarily halted shipments of some vehicles after Japan's Transport Ministry found irregularities in its certification applications.
"We sincerely apologize for any concern or inconvenience this may cause to our customers and stakeholders who have placed their trust in Toyota ( TM )," Toyota ( TM ) said in a statement.
The affected shipments include the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio, and Yaris Cross, the company said.
Toyota ( TM ), Mazda Motor, and Yamaha Motor were ordered to suspend shipments after the ministry found they submitted incorrect or manipulated safety test data in their applications for certain models.
Honda Motor ( HMC ) and Suzuki Motor were also found to have submitted inaccurate safety test data, according to the ministry.
The investigation of the companies will continue, according to the ministry.
"We can confirm that the actions taken that resulted in the irregularities were due to incorrect interpretations of the testing procedures, and there was no deliberate intent to falsify test results," a spokesperson for Mazda North America told MT Newswires in an emailed statement.
Mazda said the issues were applicable only to vehicles produced and sold in the Japanese market. "Vehicles produced in Japan for the North American market are not affected as they have different regulatory testing requirements, which are all in compliance," the company said.
Toyota ( TM ), Honda ( HMC ), Yamaha, and Suzuki did not immediately respond to requests for comment by MT Newswires.
