Update: Travelers' Q1 Core Earnings, Revenue Rise; Shares Decline

Travelers (TRV) shares were down nearly 8% in recent trading Wednesday after the company reported Q1 core earnings earlier in the day of $4.69 per diluted share, up from $4.11 a year earlier.

Analysts polled by Capital IQ expected $4.86.

Revenue for the quarter that ended March 31 was $11.23 billion, up from $9.70 billion a year earlier.

Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ expected $10.21 billion.

The company's board increased its regular quarterly dividend by 5% to $1.05 per share, payable June 28 to shareholders of record as of June 10.
