Apr 1, 2024 8:53 AM

11:21 AM EDT, 04/01/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with United Airlines' confirmation and comment in the first and second paragraphs.)

United Airlines (UAL) said Monday it is asking pilots to take voluntary unpaid time off in May due to delays in Boeing ( BA ) aircraft deliveries.

"We can confirm that due to the recent delays in Boeing ( BA ) deliveries, our forecasted block hours for 2024 have been reduced and we are offering our pilots voluntary programs for the month of May to reduce excess staffing. We don't have any further specifics to share at this time," United Airlines told MT Newswires.

The voluntary unpaid time off for May and potentially other summer months was first reported by CNBC Monday, citing a note from the pilots' union.

Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MT Newswires.
