Update: US FAA Proposes Airworthiness Directive for Boeing 747-400F Planes
Apr 12, 2024 7:46 AM

10:25 AM EDT, 04/12/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Boeing's ( BA ) statement in the third paragraph.)

The US Federal Aviation Administration has proposed an airworthiness directive for some Boeing ( BA ) 747-400F planes requiring the application of cap seals to certain fasteners inside fuel tanks, according to a notice filed with the Federal Register Thursday.

The lack of cap seals at the end of the fasteners could likely lead to an ignition source in the tanks during a lightning strike or high-powered short circuit, which could result in an explosion or fire, according to the notice.

"We notified the fleet in September and this affects 15 U.S. registered airplanes. This is not an immediate safety of flight issue," a Boeing ( BA ) spokesperson said in a late Thursday email to MT Newswires.
