09:08 AM EDT, 09/25/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates to add FAA statement in the fourth paragraph.)
Boeing's ( BA ) quality assurance practices are the focus as the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found the company's workers "continue to feel pressure to prioritize speed of production over quality," news outlets reported Wednesday, citing a memo from the Senate panel's Democratic Party staff members.
The Senate subcommittee is investigating Boeing's ( BA ) safety issues. The panel's memo noted gaps in the company's quality inspection procedures and how Boeing ( BA ) fails to ensure employees' adequate training for their tasks, multiple news outlets said. In addition, the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations found fault with the Federal Aviation Administration's oversight, given Boeing's ( BA ) recurring safety issues, according to the reports.
The memo was issued ahead of Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Michael Whitaker's scheduled testimony before the subcommittee Wednesday.
"The Administrator will address the issues at today's hearing," the FAA said in an emailed response to a request for comment from MT Newswires. Whitaker said that "this won't be back to business as usual for Boeing ( BA )," the FAA added.
Boeing ( BA ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comments.
