Update: Walmart Recalls Potentially Contaminated Shrimp Products From Shelves
Aug 20, 2025 9:26 AM

12:05 PM EDT, 08/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with additional details and comments from Walmart ( WMT ) throughout the story)

Walmart ( WMT ) said Wednesday it has restricted sales and removed shrimp products from impacted stores, the retailer told MT Newswires.

The move comes after the US Food and Drug Administration warned that certain raw frozen shrimp may be contaminated with the Cesium-137 radioactive isotope and pose a safety threat.

The FDA said that a radionuclide analysis of the products confirmed the presence of Cesium-137 in one sample of breaded shrimp. It added that no product that tested positive or alerted for Cesium-137 entered US commerce and that the investigation is still ongoing.

The agency said that the products were supplied to Walmart ( WMT ) by Indonesia's Bahari Makmur Sejati, which has been added to a new import alert for chemical contamination.

A Walmart ( WMT ) spokesperson told MT Newswires that customer safety remains the company's top priority, adding that the retailer has removed the product from stores and is working with the supplier as the investigation continues.
