11:02 AM EDT, 09/09/2024 (MT Newswires) -- (Updates with Disney's ( DIS ) response in the fifth paragraph.)
Walt Disney ( DIS ) was accused of failing to negotiate in good faith and engage in anti-competitive behavior by DirecTV in a complaint filed with the US Federal Communications Commission, multiple news outlets reported Sunday, citing the satellite TV provider.
DirecTV said in the complaint that Disney ( DIS ) has imposed unreasonable conditions on the renewal of their distribution agreement such as demands for bundling and penetration requirements that were recently declared unlawful.
The company also reportedly said that Disney ( DIS ) is insisting on a "fat bundle" of channels that forces the carrier to offer less popular programs.
This has already led to more than 1 million DirecTV subscribers losing access to Disney ( DIS )-owned channels including ESPN ( DIS ), the media outlets said.
"We continue to negotiate with DirecTV to restore access to our content as quickly as possible," a Disney ( DIS ) spokesperson said in an emailed statement to MT Newswires. "We urge DirecTV to stop creating diversions and instead prioritize their customers by finalizing a deal that would allow their subscribers to watch our strong upcoming lineup of sports, news and entertainment programming, starting with the return of Monday Night Football."
DirecTV did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment on the matter.
