Update: Yum! Brands' KFC to Invest $2 Billion in UK, Ireland

Yum! Brands' ( YUM ) KFC ( YUM ) said Tuesday it plans to invest 1.49 billion pounds ($2.02 billion) in the UK and Ireland over the next five years.

Of the total investment, 466 million pounds will be for opening new restaurants as well as upgrading 200 existing sites, while 583 million pounds will go toward the creation of more than 7,000 new jobs, KFC ( YUM ) said.

In addition, 404 million pounds of the total investment will be to boost KFC's ( YUM ) relationships with its suppliers, the company said.

KFC ( YUM ) said it plans to open an additional 500 restaurants over the next 10 years in the UK and Ireland.

Reuters first reported the news earlier Tuesday.
