Jul 8, 2024 12:54 PM

03:42 PM EDT, 07/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- US airlines canceled more than 1,600 flights by Monday afternoon as Hurricane Beryl made landfall in Texas.

Some 1,629 flights within, into or out of the US were canceled by late Monday afternoon, while 3,250 flights were delayed, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.

Some 485 United Airlines (UAL) flights were canceled, while more than 160 were delayed. Southwest Airlines ( LUV ) saw 346 cancellations and 548 delays, while American Airlines ( AAL ) saw 61 cancellations and 687 delays. The cancellation and delayed tallies at Delta Air Lines ( DAL ) stood at 50 and 321, respectively, according to the data.

All four carriers have issued travel advisories on their respective websites amid potential flight disruptions tied to Beryl.

The largest ports in Texas have closed operations and vessel traffic amid weather-related disruptions, D.A. Davidson said in a Monday note to clients.

"Flash flooding and gusty winds continuing over Eastern Texas," the US National Hurricane Center said on its website.

Beryl previously made landfall along Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula Friday morning and later moved into the Gulf of Mexico, The Associated Press reported.
