06:01 AM EDT, 03/13/2026 (MT Newswires) -- The US has temporarily authorized countries to purchase Russian oil already stranded at sea to help stabilize global energy markets, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a post on X on Friday.
Bessent said the "narrowly tailored" measure allows purchases only of oil already in transit and is a short-term measure.
The secretary added that the move aligns with energy policies by US President Donald Trump aimed at boosting domestic oil and gas production to record levels and keeping fuel prices low.
Meanwhile, Brent crude price climbed to $100.85 per barrel on Friday morning, while West Texas Intermediate was at $95.55 per barrel.
