06:57 AM EDT, 06/26/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Federal Aviation Administration said Wednesday that it is adopting a new airworthiness directive for certain Boeing ( BA ) 757-200 airplanes due to reports of cracking in the structure of the lavatory service panel.
The regulator said it estimates that the directive would affect 13 airplanes.
"The stress concentrations in the lavatory service panel access pan, the fuselage skin, and the stringer 22 attachment to the service panel are too high causing fatigue cracking," the FAA said.
If not addressed, the issue could cause depressurization during a flight and reduce the aircraft's structural integrity, the regulator added.
