US, Canadian Theatre Owners Set $2.2 Billion Upgrade Plan, Trade Group Says

12:49 PM EDT, 09/19/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Eight theatre chains, including AMC Entertainment ( AMC ) and Cinemark (CNK), will spend over $2.2 billion to upgrade theatres in the US and Canada over the next three years, a trade group said Thursday.

The National Association of Theatre Owners, that represents owners of these chains said the modernization plan includes upgrading laser projection technology and sound systems, providing more comfortable seating, and improving food and beverage services.

The theatre owners also plan to introduce additional entertainment options such as arcades and bowling.

The industry group also includes Regal Cinemas, Cineplex, Marcus Theatres, B&B Theatres, Harkins Theatres, and Santikos Entertainment.
