06:43 AM EDT, 03/11/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Washington and Beijing have reportedly begun early discussions about a possible June summit between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday, citing unnamed sources.
Amid economic pressure, China is said to be seeking talks with the U.S. to fend off, or at least to slow down additional tariff hikes and technology restrictions. Sources familiar with Beijing's position told WSJ that China hopes the summit could initiate this process.
White House and China's Embassy in Washington, DC did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
