US FDA Urges Walmart to Recall Certain Shrimp Products on Radioactivity Concerns
Aug 20, 2025 4:09 AM

05:59 AM EDT, 08/20/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The US Food and Drug Administration has recommended that Walmart ( WMT ) recall certain raw frozen shrimp products on concerns that they may be contaminated with the Cesium-137 radioactive isotope and pose a safety threat, the FDA said Wednesday.

The FDA said that a radionuclide analysis of the products confirmed the presence of Cesium-137 in one sample of breaded shrimp, and that the complete investigation was still ongoing.

The FDA said that the products were supplied to Walmart ( WMT ) by Indonesia's Bahari Makmur Sejati, which has been added to a new import alert for chemical contamination.

Several media outlets reported that the suspected products have since been recalled by Walmart ( WMT ).

Walmart ( WMT ) did not immediately respond to an MT Newswires request for comment.
