US Government Reportedly Plans to Require Airlines to Provide Cash Compensation for Canceled, Delayed Flights
Sep 11, 2024 4:46 AM

06:35 AM EDT, 09/11/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The Biden Administration is preparing a proposed rule that would require US airlines to compensate passengers for controllable cancellations or delays of three hours or more, in addition to providing meals and lodging, Bloomberg reported, citing Michael Negron, special assistant to the President for economic policy at the White House.

The rule could be issued as early as January 2025.

Senator Edward Markey, a member of the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, said airlines should compensate passengers for canceled flights because of mechanical or staffing issues, as reported by Bloomberg.
