11:17 AM EDT, 04/30/2025 (MT Newswires) -- The chairman of the US House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure proposed a new annual fee on electric vehicles and other vehicles that will help increase federal revenue by about $50 billion over 10 years.

Sam Graves' proposal includes an annual registration fee of $200 on EVs, $100 on hybrids, as well as $20 on all passenger vehicles starting in 2031, according to a document released by the committee on Tuesday.

Graves is proposing combining investments to back the Trump administration's border and national security policies and improve the country's air traffic control system. Graves' proposal also includes cuts in spending and other measures for a net reduction of over $10 billion to the deficit of the US, the document showed.

The committee is taking up the proposal from Graves on Wednesday.
