Dec 10 (Reuters) - U.S. life insurer Resolution Life, on

Tuesday, confirmed it is in final stages of discussions

regarding a potential acquisition by Nippon Life Insurance

Earlier in the day, the Nikkei reported Nippon Life would

buy Resolution Lifefor about $8.2 billion in what would be the

biggest acquisition ever by a Japanese insurer.
