07:20 AM EDT, 05/08/2024 (MT Newswires) -- The US has reportedly revoked licenses that allowed Qualcomm ( QCOM ) and Intel ( INTC ) to sell chips used for laptops and handsets to China's Huawei Technologies, effective immediately, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

One of the cited sources told Reuters that both Qualcomm ( QCOM ) and Intel ( INTC ) were notified about the Commerce's Department's decision on Tuesday.

The department confirmed to the Financial Times that certain licenses for exports to Huawei had been revoked without disclosing the names of the US companies affected from the decision.

In April, Huawei launched an AI-powered laptop equipped with Intel's ( INTC ) new Core Ultra 9 processor that drew criticism from some US lawmakers, who said it suggested that the Biden administration had permitted Intel ( INTC ) to sell the chip to Huawei.

Qualcomm ( QCOM ) and Intel ( INTC ) didn't immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
