US senator to propose bill to require new FAA safety efforts

July 31 (Reuters) - U.S. Senate Commerce Committee chair

Maria Cantwell said she plans to introduce legislation on

Thursday to require the Federal Aviation Administration to use

advanced safety measures after its actions overseeing Boeing ( BA )

have raised questions.

"We really think the FAA needs to have its own process,"

Cantwell said of safety management systems.

She also said she still plans to call Boeing ( BA ) to testify even

after the company named Kelly Ortberg as its new CEO on

Wednesday.

She said the new CEO of Boeing ( BA ) should be based in Seattle. A

source confirmed that Ortberg plans to be based in Seattle.
