10:38 AM EDT, 04/03/2024 (MT Newswires) -- United States Steel ( X ) said Wednesday it has signed an agreement with CarbonFree to use its SkyCycle technology to capture and mineralize up to 50,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year at its steel plant in Gary, Indiana.
The company said that construction on the SkyCycle plant in the Gary Works facility is anticipated to begin as early as this summer 2024, with operations expected to start in 2026.
The definitive agreement signed with CarbonFree has a 20-year term, US Steel said. Other terms were not disclosed.
