Vale Calls Detection of Anomalies in Tailing Dam Structure a 'Normal Procedure'
Apr 5, 2024 7:55 AM

10:29 AM EDT, 04/05/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Vale (VALE) said Friday that detecting, analyzing and correcting anomalies in a tailing dam structure is a "normal procedure" within the management system of tailings and dams.

The statement from the mining company came in the wake of media reports about the safety of the dam in Ouro Preto, Brazil.

"The accumulation of sedimented material at the outlet of a drainage device was detected on March 15," Vale said. "All instruments installed to monitor the structure did not show any changes in its conditions."

The company vowed to continue to oversee the safety performance of the dam.
