Valero Energy Reportedly Shuts Texas Refinery After Explosion, Fire
Mar 24, 2026 1:57 AM

04:34 AM EDT, 03/24/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Valero Energy ( VLO ) has shut its 380,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Port Arthur, Texas following an explosion and fire at a diesel hydrotreater unit, multiple media outlets reported late Monday.

The reports said the blast occurred at a 47,000 bpd diesel hydrotreater on Monday evening and was reportedly heard up to 11 miles away across the Texas-Louisiana border region.

Operations were halted to contain the fire, which was still burning nearly five hours after the incident, the reports said, adding that the refinery also lost water and steam supplies during firefighting efforts.

No injuries were reported, they added.

Valero Energy ( VLO ) did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
