09:55 AM EDT, 10/16/2025 (MT Newswires) -- Viasat ( VSAT ) said Thursday it has completed a demonstration in Mexico showing direct-to-device connectivity, including short message service, or SMS, messages on an Android smartphone.

Smartphones sent and received messages using Viasat's ( VSAT ) I-4 F3 satellite, the company said.

The direct-to-device technology allows mobile phones to connect to satellites without the need for dedicated satellite hardware, Viasat ( VSAT ) said, adding it already completed demonstrations of the technology in India, the Middle East, Brazil, and Hawaii.

Viasat ( VSAT ) shares were up 2.4% in recent trading Thursday.
