07:34 AM EDT, 03/23/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Viatris ( VTRS ) said Monday that Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare has approved Effexor as a treatment for adults with generalized anxiety disorder.

The company said the approval was based on a phase 3 study in Japan, which met its primary and secondary endpoints.

Effexor, or venlafaxine hydrochloride, was earlier approved in Japan for the treatment of major depressive disorder in adults, Viatris ( VTRS ) said.

Shares of the company were up more than 2% in premarket activity Monday.
