Viking's Obesity Treatments Advance as New Data, Trials Loom, Oppenheimer Says
Jul 30, 2026 11:51 AM

02:17 PM EDT, 07/30/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Viking Therapeutics' ( VKTX ) obesity drug programs continue to move forward, with new study results expected this quarter, a Phase 3 trial for its oral drug planned for later this year, and another candidate beginning clinical testing, Oppenheimer said Wednesday in a report.

Viking is focusing its lead drug, VK2735, on helping patients keep weight off over time, not just on hitting the highest possible weight-loss number, and the company is building its approach around long-term use and patient choice, Oppenheimer said.

Viking is developing both injectable and oral versions of VK2735, which may give patients more flexibility, the report said. Oppenheimer highlighted VK2809 as a potential treatment for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, a liver disease, that may attract partnership interest.

Oppenheimer rates Viking stock as outperform with a $100 price target.
