08:30 AM EDT, 05/17/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Village Farms International ( VFF ) said Friday it is mulling "multiple parallel strategies" to enter the legal US marijuana market.

The US Department of Justice said Thursday it has decided to pursue federal rescheduling of marijuana for medical purposes.

The company noted its Canadian subsidiary, Pure Sunfarms, is "one of the single largest cannabis operations in the world."

"We will continue to monitor regulatory and other developments that may result from the proposed rescheduling and look forward to determining the right path forward for the Company and our shareholders to fully capitalize on the U.S. marijuana opportunity," Village Farms ( VFF ) President and Chief Executive Michael DeGiglio added.
