08:10 AM EDT, 07/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Vinfast said Friday it will delay the launch of its first-ever US manufacturing facility until 2028.

The original opening was set for 2025, Reuters reported.

The change in plans for the Vietnamese company's North Carolina facility comes amid a slowdown in sales for electric vehicles. "Ongoing economic headwinds and uncertainties in different macro-economies and global EV landscape necessitate a more prudent outlook for the rest of the year," the company said.

Company Chairperson Thuy Le said the company is adopting a "more prudent outlook" that takes into "full consideration the realities of market volatility and potential challenges."
