12:28 PM EDT, 03/26/2026 (MT Newswires) -- Visa (V), Mastercard ( MA ) , PayPal Holdings ( PYPL ) and Stripe received warning letters from US Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson over publicly reported instances of companies denying customers access based on their political or religious views, the agency said Thursday.
The letters state that any act or practice to "deplatform" customers or deny them access to financial products or services in a way that is inconsistent with a company's terms of service or a customer's reasonable expectations may violate the FTC Act and might lead to an investigation or enforcement action, the commission said in a statement.
Visa, Mastercard ( MA ), and PayPal ( PYPL ) did not immediately respond to requests for comment from MT Newswires.
Visa shares fell 0.5% in Thursday trading, Mastercard ( MA ) dropped 0.4%, and PayPal ( PYPL ) rose 0.5%.
