Wabash National Considers Legal Options After $462 Million Jury Verdict
Sep 6, 2024 4:38 AM

07:27 AM EDT, 09/06/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Wabash National ( WNC ) said Friday it is considering its legal options in response to a jury verdict against it in a St. Louis court trial.

The company said the case concerns a fatal 2019 accident in which a passenger vehicle struck a 2004 Wabash trailer that was nearly stopped.

The Wall Street Journal reported the jury awarded plaintiffs $12 million in compensatory damages and $450 million in punitive damages.

Wabash's General Counsel and Chief Administrative Officer Kristin Glazner said the verdict is "not supported by the facts or law," and that the jury was prevented from hearing that the driver's blood alcohol level was over the legal limit and that neither driver nor passenger were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
